The Adventure Capital of Africa
Welcome to Livingstone!
When planning a trip to witness the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls, travellers often ask: Should I stay on the Zambian or Zimbabwean side? While both offer access to one of the world’s greatest natural wonders, Livingstone, on the Zambian side, stands out for those who crave a more authentic and culturally rich African experience.
A Town Rooted in History
Livingstone is far more than just a base for visiting the Falls — it’s a town steeped in history and heritage. Once the capital of Northern Rhodesia, Livingstone proudly carries the name of the famed explorer Dr. David Livingstone, who was among the first Europeans to set eyes on the Falls in the 1850s. Wander through streets lined with colonial-era architecture, visit the Livingstone Museum — the oldest and most comprehensive museum in Zambia — and discover exhibits that trace everything from local tribal histories to the life of the town's namesake. It’s a place where past and present coexist in a living narrative.
An Authentic Slice of Zambia
Unlike more tourist-centric towns, Livingstone is a genuine, functioning Zambian community. Visitors are welcomed not just as tourists, but as guests stepping into everyday life. From colorful markets and roadside food stalls to skilled local artisans and textile vendors selling vibrant chitenge fabric, the town offers real interactions and a sense of place that can't be staged. Here, you’re not just passing through — you’re part of the rhythm of local life!
Close to the Action, Far from the Crowds
Though it maintains a laid-back, small-town charm, all the region’s headline experiences are easily accessible.
Travel That Matters
Livingstone is at the forefront of responsible tourism, with a number of initiatives supporting conservation, sustainability, and local empowerment. Whether you’re engaging with community-run workshops, dining at ethical wildlife lodges, or supporting local craft studios, your visit directly contributes to the wellbeing of the region’s people and ecosystems.
Stay in Livingstone to go deeper — into stories, cultures, landscapes, and connections. It’s a destination where authenticity meets adventure!
